Board Member, Professional Pilot, Executive Coach, and Ministry Leader

After a successful corporate leadership career, I now spend my time serving in organizational governance roles, supporting ministries and nonprofit work in Kansas City, mentoring next generation senior leaders, and flying as a contract pilot.

Executive Coaching & Governance

  • Much of my time is spent working with next generation senior leaders as an executive coach and leadership mentor with Water Stone Leadership, a venture I founded in 2021.
  • Another area of focus for me is organizational governance. I am currently on the board of directors for Angel Flight Central. Previously I've held board director roles at Bats Global Markets, Axoni, C2FO, and Cboe Global Markets.
  • I finished my corporate career in 2016 as Chairman and CEO of a multi-billion dollar global financial technology firm.

Markets, Technology & Aviation

  • I was one of the original 13 founding employees of BATS Global Markets in 2005, and served as Chief Executive Officer from June 2007 until March 2015, retaining the role of Chairman until the company was acquired by CBOE in 2017.
  • Prior to BATS, I was the Chief Information Officer at LabOne, and before that the Chief Technology Officer at Bridge Information Systems.
  • I have a degree in mathematics and computer science from UCM. I am an accomplished photographer, avid bicyclist, aspiring musician, and an ATP type rated contract charter pilot with over 4,700 hours in my logbook.
  • My brother and I are Guinness World Record Holders. Interestingly, I know how to barefoot waterski (frontwards and backwards), and love to cook Sous Vide style.

Service, Family & Faith

  • My wife, Sandy, and I started the non-profit organization Hope in the Streets in 2004, which provides the homeless with food and other necessities twice every week in Kansas City.
  • Branching off of Hope in the Streets, I cofounded Worship Wagon along with Bruce McGregor. This ministry is a weekly church service for the homeless population in Kansas City, under a bridge at 1st & Grand.
  • Sandy and I both enjoy being pilots, and we try to fly at least one Angel Flight mission each month.
  • Recently I have enjoyed the opportunity to play cajon and bass guitar along with our church's worship band each month.
